8sq miles mostly coastal park from Pointe Boulima to Cap Carbon, with rugged cliffs, mountains, forest, scrub and beaches.
The name of Gouraya National Park is derived from the 660 metres high Gouraya Mountain. The mountain, cliffs, forest and beaches give the park a rich biodiversity. Gouraya National Park is a good area for conservation with barbary macaques, jackals and wildcats on land, sperm whale, dolphins and porpoise, Northern Gannet, Manx Shearwater, European Storm Petrel and Audouin's Gull offshore. Birds may also include Eurasian Scops Owl, Eagle Owl, Egyptian Vulture, Short-toed Snake Eagle, Pin-tailed Sandgrouse, European Turtle Dove, Dotterel, Little Bustard, Eurasian Hobby, Common Quail, European Honey-buzzard, Eurasian Nightjar, Red-necked Nightjar, Sardinian Warbler, Western Orphean Warbler, Melodious Warbler, Calandra Lark, Greater Short-toed Lark, Crested Lark, Spanish Sparrow, Rock Sparrow, Blue Rock Thrush, Corn Bunting, Cirl Bunting and Rock Bunting.
City of Bejaia has an airport and train station and is 2 and a 1/2 hours east of Algiers. The N24 coast road passes through the park. Most other roads are narrow, steep and winding. Summer temperatures can reach 47° and are best avoided. Travel here in early spring or late autumn for best results.
