Niskalampi Nature Reserve has various types of forest. Some parts are quite old, which means that there are more rotten wood than in normal Finnish forests. This means that it's a good place for woodpeckers and some other species that prefer older forests. Nice birds you can see here are White-backed Woodpecker, Black Woodpecker, Eurasian Three-toed Woodpecker, Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, Wood Warbler, Blackcap, Eurasian Treecreeper, Goldcrest, Eurasian Nuthatch, Red-breasted Flycatcher, Coal Tit, Crested Tit and Willow Tit.
