Description

Built in 1974 to regulate the Marne, this lake covers an area of ​​4800 hectares and is one of the largest reservoirs in Europe and a paradise for birds. Mud pools at the end of summer attract migrating waders and numerous ducks in winter and spring. But the lake has it's claim to fame from especially one bird: Common Crane.

But also Taiga Bean Goose, Barnacle Goose and Greylag Goose, White-tailed Eagle, Eurasian Curlew, Bewick's Swan and Common Goldeneye. This natural and preserved framework houses more than 200 bird species, including a number of rare and endangered species, 40 different mammals, 45 species of dragonflies, 20 species of amphibians and more than 200 different plants.
