Description

Pointe de Chassiron is located at the end of the island of Oléron, and probably the most interesting place for the observation of pelagic birds (= seawatch), like Northern Gannet, Common Guillemot or even Balearic Shearwater.

The best time to observe seabirds, like any bird for that matter, is from dawn until noon. The only really interesting period for the seawatch is fall. You will then be able to observe a very large diversity of open sea birds, such as: Greylag Goose, Brent Goose, Common Eider, Common Scoter, Red-breasted Merganser, Slavonian Grebe, Great Crested Grebe, Great Skua, Common Guillemot, Razorbill, Sabine's Gull, Black-headed Gull, Little Gull, Mediterranean Gull, Common Gull, Herring Gull, Yellow-legged Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Great Black-backed Gull, Little Tern, Sandwich Tern, Common Tern, Red-throated Diver, Great Northern Diver, European Storm Petrel, Balearic Shearwater, Northern Gannet and finally European Shag.

During migration, it is also possible to observe a large number of passerines and Anatidae.

NB: a Spotless Starling has been nesting for several years under the tiles of the most advanced house with Common Starling.

Vous pourrez alors observer une très grand diversité d'oiseaux de pleine mer, comme :Greylag Goose , Brent Goose , Common Eider , Common Scoter , Red-breasted Merganser , Slavonian Grebe , Great Crested Grebe , Great Skua , Common Guillemot , Razorbill , Sabine's Gull , Black-headed Gull , Little Gull , Mediterranean Gull , Common Gull , Herring Gull , Yellow-legged Gull , Lesser Black-backed Gull , Great Black-backed Gull , Little Tern , Sandwich Tern , Common Tern , Red-throated Diver , Great Northern Diver , European Storm Petrel , Balearic Shearwater , Northern Gannet et enfin European Shag .

Lors de le migration, il est aussi possible d'observer un grand nombre de passereaux et d'anatidés.

NB: un Spotless Starling niche depuis plusieurs années sous les tuiles de la maison la plus à la pointe avec des Common Starling .

Access

It is possible to park in the parking lot at the tip. You can visit the site on foot. You can also visit it by bike but it will be useless because the principle is to remain static behind your telescope.
