Description

The central part of this area is the Kumisi reservoir where many ducks, grebes and other waterfowl can be found during any time of the year. In spring, many Rândunică and Lăstun de mal can be seen hawking over the reedbeds and water. Rață roșie is sometimes seen here in autumn. On the Southwest edge of the reservoir there are some wet pastures where Stârc de cireadă and Barză albă can be seen foraging. Vrabie de stâncă breeds in the abandoned buildings in the immediate surroundings and Privighetoare de baltă in the reedbeds surrounding the lake.

During winter Cufundar polar and groups of up to 70 Pescăruș asiatic winter here. On the Northern shore there have been multiple records of Nagâț cu coadă albă and there was a record of Fâsă americană some years ago in winter.

Access

Kumisi Lake is located about 22 km south of Tbilisi and can be reached by a 30-minute drive from Tbilisi. Drive either through Krtsanisi or Mtisdziri on the East side of the lake. Though this road is not in very good condition it should be possible with most non 4x4 vehicles. Another option is to drive from Kumisi/Koda, but a 4x4 is needed.
