Description

The Haarmoos lies west of lake Abtsdorf and is the most important meadow breeding area in southeastern Bavaria. The meadows are mowed once or twice a year by local farmers. The wet areas are home to many ground-nesting bird species such as Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, Meadow Pipit, Whinchat, Common Snipe, Eurasian Skylark and Corn Crake.

Access

You can park on the big Parkplatz Lauterbrunn on the east side of the Abtsdorfer See. From there you can explore the area. The Haarmoos has information boards and observation points. Note: In order to reduce disturbances of the birds in the breeding season the meadow breeding areas may not be entered from 20 March to 15 June. But the observation points are accessible all year round. You can also walk the Haarmoos Wanderung, an easy hike of 7 km (see the map) around the lake Abtsdorfer See and through the Haarmoos.
