The Panzerwiese is a 200 hectare heath area in the north of Munich that is part of the northern Munich gravel plain. It used to be a military training area and was never used as an agricultural area. The plain is practically treeless and shrubless. The Hartelholz is a 115-hectare forest north of the Panzerwiese. The Hartelholz and the Panzerwiese are a proper breeding ground for several birds.
