The banks of the Yarkon river, the green areas around it and the newly created "Rosh Tzipor" (Bird's Head) are a nice place for birding with surprising birds.

Description

The banks of the Yarkon river and the green areas around in the middle of Tel Aviv are good for birding. Also a new part of the area has been transformed to a 6 hectares birding site "Rosh Tzipor" (Bird's Head) with a wide range of habitats. Inclusing a central lake, winter pools and canals connecting them, nesting islands, mud banks, bridges and piers, a wet meadow, special areas for bats and butterflies, a duck pond, a gushing pond, a lily pond, a garden for land birds, and accessible paths and picnic tables.

Among the birds you can see along the river or in Bird's Head are Eurasian Hoopoe, White-throated Kingfisher, Pied Kingfisher, Little Egret, Hooded Crow, Spur-winged Lapwing, Black-crowned Night Heron and Laughing Dove.

Access

See the map for areas to explore, you can combine a walk along the banks easy with a walk around "Rosh Tzipor" (Bird's Head). The total route you see on the map is about 4 km. The birdwatching park "Rosh Tzipor" (Bird's Head) forms part of Ganei Yehoshua (also known as Yarkon Park), which is most conveniently reached by car from Ramat Gan’s Rokach Street. Opposite building no. 74, adjacent to HaChava farm, a paved road branches off westward and, after about 100 meters, brings us to a large parking lot. The gate to the birdwatching park is on the far side. Parking is free and there is no entrance fee to the birdwatching center. Opening hours : 6:30 - 18:30.
