Today the Centro Habitat Mediterraneo of Ostia includes a coastal pond, around which over 200 species of birds have already been registered. A nature path allows you to reach 3 large wooden huts for bird watching and structures dedicated to nature photography. Very interesting during autumn migration. Some species are nesting such as Héron pourpré. Martin-pêcheur d'Europe can be easily spotted. Some birds of prey are present such as Busard des roseaux and Buse variable. Many passeriformes are present during the whole year.

Italiano: Il Centro Habitat Mediterraneo (CHM) si trova alla foce del Tevere. Una zona umida, piccola (20 ettari) ma graziosa, per il birdwatching, situata nella periferia di Roma. Oggi il Centro Habitat Mediterraneo di Ostia comprende uno stagno costiero attorno al quale sono già state registrate oltre 200 specie di uccelli. Un sentiero natura permette di raggiungere tre grandi capanni in legno per il birdwatching e strutture dedicate alla fotografia naturalistica. Molto interessante durante la migrazione autunnale. Alcune specie sono nidificanti, come l'Héron pourpré. È facile avvistare il Martin-pêcheur d'Europe, mentre tra i rapaci sono presenti il Busard des roseaux e la Buse variable. Numerosi passeriformi popolano l'area durante tutto l'anno.

From Rome, by car, take the Grande Raccordo Anulare to exit n. 28 Ostia - Via del Mare, take the Ostia promenade by turning right (towards the north), follow it all the way to the end and turn right onto Via Carlo Avegno. Follow the road to the end and turn left on Via dell'Idroscalo and after the second roundabout turn left entering the parking lot of the Tourist Port of Rome. In the parking lot, the Mario Pastore Visitor Center is a wooden chalet. It's possible to park near the main access.
It is also possible to easily access the reserve by public transport, which is particularly useful if you are in Rome, as you can reach Lido di Ostia Centro train station. From there you can catch either bus 062 or 05. The route 062 also serves the central part of the seafront and runs every 15 minutes.
The site is small, so it can be explored by foot. The visitor center is open on Monday-Wednesday-Friday-Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm. On Saturdays from 9 to 13 there is free access to the oasis. If you are visiting the reserve on Monday, Wednesday or Friday mornings, access may be restricted so you might want to contact the centre in advance.

Italiano: Da Roma, in auto, prendi il Grande Raccordo Anulare (GRA) fino all'uscita n. 28 Ostia - Via del Mare. Prosegui sul lungomare di Ostia svoltando a destra (direzione nord), seguilo fino alla fine e gira a destra in Via Carlo Avegno. Percorri la strada fino in fondo e svolta a sinistra in Via dell'Idroscalo e, dopo la seconda rotonda, gira ancora a sinistra per entrare nel parcheggio del Porto Turistico di Roma. All'interno del parcheggio, il Centro Visite "Mario Pastore" si trova in uno chalet di legno. È possibile parcheggiare nelle vicinanze dell'accesso principale.
È possibile accedere facilmente alla riserva anche con i mezzi pubblici, il che è particolarmente utile se ci si trova a Roma, poiché si può raggiungere la stazione ferroviaria di Lido di Ostia Centro. Da lì si può prendere l'autobus 062 o l'autobus 05. La linea 062 serve anche la parte centrale del lungomare e passa ogni 15 minuti.
Il sito è piccolo, quindi può essere esplorato a piedi. Il Centro Visite è aperto lunedì, mercoledì, venerdì e sabato dalle 9:00 alle 13:00. Il sabato dalle 9:00 alle 13:00 l'accesso all'oasi è libero. Se si visita la riserva nelle mattinate di lunedì, mercoledì o venerdì, l'accesso potrebbe essere limitato, quindi si consiglia di contattare il centro in anticipo.
