Description

Delta Schuitenbeek is situated between the Nulde marina and the Nijkerkersluis, parallel to the old Zuiderzee dike. On the south side of the Nuldernauw, a new diversion dike, which is 3793 meters long, has been built parallel to the existing dike. An elongated area has thus been created between the two dykes, where the water is shallow and where a few islands have been constructed. The area of the delta is 57.8 ha. An ideal place for waterfowl, which are present here in large numbers. From the bird hide you can see many ducks, geese and swans (Northern Pintail, Common Shelduck, Eurasian Wigeon, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Bewick's Swan) and often Common Kingfisher. In addition, there are often migrating waders (Common Redshank, Green Sandpiper, Common Sandpiper) and large groups of Northern Lapwing. Seagulls and terns are often found on the poles and stones. The adjacent Putterpolder is an important area for various species of geese. In the winter you can regularly see Goosander, Smew and Common Goldeneye on the water.
