Description
Waterwingebied Amersfoort is an elongated urban nature park of over 24 hectares. It was previously a drinking water extraction area, but is now a park. Because the site was never built up, it was able to develop into a green strip that now functions as a transition between the city and the countryside. The Waterwingebied has forests, pollarded trees, wet and dry hayfields, ponds with natural banks, wet woods and hedgerows. Birdwise the area has many summer and winter visitors. There are breeding Kobac, and very occasionally a Jastreb. Vodomar can often be seen. Other birds that can be spotted include Crnokapa Grmuša, Zimovka, Patka Žličarka, Patka Kreketaljka, Krunata Patka, Veliki Vranac, Veliki Djetlić, Kratkoprsti puzavac, Zlatoglavi Kraljić, Vatroglavi Kraljić and Dugorepa Sjenica.

Nederlands: Het Waterwingebied in Amersfoort is een langgerekt stadsnatuurpark van ruim 24 hectare. Een kleinschalig maar ecologisch rijk stadspark met veel afwisseling. Het was vroeger een drinkwaterwingebied, maar is nu een stadsnatuurpark. Omdat het terrein nooit bebouwd werd, kon het zich ontwikkelen tot een groene strook die nu fungeert als overgang tussen stad en buitengebied. Het Waterwingebied heeft bos, knotbomen, nat en droog hooiland, poelen met natuuroevers, moerasbosjes en houtsingels. Het gebied heeft veel zomergasten en wintergasten. Er zijn broedende Kobacs, en heel soms Jastreb. De Vodomar is vaak te zien. Andere vogels die je kunt tegenkomen zijn onder meer Crnokapa Grmuša, Zimovka, Patka Žličarka, Patka Kreketaljka, Krunata Patka, Veliki Vranac, Veliki Djetlić, Kratkoprsti puzavac, Zlatoglavi Kraljić, Vatroglavi Kraljić en Dugorepa Sjenica.

Access
The Waterwingebied is located in the (north)east of the city of Amersfoort, between the Liendert and Rustenburg neighborhoods. Parking is available in the adjacent streets. A visit of about an hour to an hour and a half is enough to walk through the entire park on well-maintained trails.

Nederlands: Het Waterwingebied ligt in het (noord)oosten van Amersfoort tussen de wijken Liendert en Rustenburg. Je kunt parkeren in de aangrenzende straten. Een bezoek van ruim één tot anderhalf uur is voldoende om door het gehele park te wandelen op goede wandelpaden.
