Description

Chartershaugh Pond is essentially a flooded field that fills during wetter seasons and shrinks in dry weather, but when flooded it becomes a very attractive spot for birdlife. Bird that can be observed here include Σταχτόχηνα, Ασπρομέτωπη Χήνα, Pink-footed Goose, Canada Goose, Νανόκυκνος, Αγριόκυκνος, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, Βαρβάρα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, Ψαλίδα (του Βορά), Γκισάρι, Χηνοπρίστης, (Κοκκινόλαιμο) Νανοβουτηχτάρι, Φασσοπερίστερο, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα, Αρκοπετείναρο, and Αργυροτσικνιάς.

Chartershaugh Pond is located 7 miles west of Sunderland, close to Chartershaugh Bridge. Take the road opposite Fatfield CIU club car park, follow road till you go under Washington highway and the pond is on your left. Press P on the map for directions.
