Slapton Ley is the largest natural lake in Southwest England. Although it is only separated from the sea by a narrow shingle bar, it is entirely freshwater. The lake is surrounded by reedbeds, marshes and woodland habitats. It's flat with easy access and with many birds to see.
An unexpected bird you can see here is the Escribano Soteño. Conservation work carried out by the RSPB has helped this species increase in number and range. You can see Escribano Soteño in farms and hedges around Slapton, Torcross and Strete.
