Description

The Büsnauer Wiesental (Büsnau meadow valley) is a protected area to the south-west of Stuttgart in direct proximity to the university campus Stuttgart Vaihingen, the Max-Planck-Institute for Solid State Research and the Pfaffenwald forest. The Wiesental consists of meadows, small streams and ponds, hedges and a few reeds and is the only remaining part of a once much larger meadow landscape.

Even though the area is quite small, the Büsnauer Wiesental can be excellent for a variety of passerine birds that are rather uncommon or rare around the city of Stuttgart. sojka obecná, mlynařík dlouhoocasý, králíček obecný, sýkora babka, strnad obecný, drozd kvíčala, špaček obecný and strakapoud prostřední can be found here throughout the entire year. rákosník obecný, rákosník zpěvný, pěnice slavíková, králíček ohnivý, ťuhýk obecný and luňák hnědý are common to uncommon summer guests. In winter, drozd brávník, čížek lesní and dlask tlustozobý can readily be observed, while hýl obecný and linduška horská are uncommon.

With some luck, migration can bring in particular highlights, like bramborníček hnědý, bělořit šedý or lejsek černohlavý, as well as linduška luční and linduška lesní.

Though technically not part of the protected area, the nearby Pfaffenwald forest houses many interesting forest birds that can sometimes even be observed around the edges of the area. These include sýkora uhelníček, sýkora parukářka, šoupálek dlouhoprstý and datel černý. The roost of a puštík obecný is just at the edge of the forest and well known by local birders.
