Description

The Map Phrachan Reservoir is a large artificial lake with lush greenery around it. The lake has lots of overgrown areas and shallow waters areas, attracting many birds. It's a good option for relatively peaceful birdwatching close to Pattaya. The reservoir is surrounded by a paved multi-use 12 km path for cycling and walking.

Birds you can see on the lake and in the surroundings include Yellow Bittern, Cotton Pygmy-Goose, Lesser Coucal, Greater Coucal, White-browed Crake, Black-winged Stilt, Bronze-winged Jacana, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Whiskered Tern, Asian Openbill, Ashy Woodswallow, Ashy Drongo, Black Drongo, Black-browed Reed Warbler, Oriental Reed Warbler, Great Myna, Siamese Pied Starling, Brown Shrike and several species of herons, bulbuls, sunbirds and weavers.

Access

The Map Phrachan Reservoir is located approximately 11 km inland from Pattaya city. Easy to reach by taxi, tuktuk or by bike. The walking/cycling route around the reservoir is 12 km. Keep in mind that it can be very hot to walk the circuit in the middle of the day, so if you decide to walk, start early. Cycling is also a good option and it is easy to rent a bike in Pattaya.
