Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large kulík zlatý flocks in winter, with records of kulík hnědokřídlý and kulík pacifický. Passage koliha malá and jespák křivozobý. Winter jespák mořský. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the rybák malýs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
potáplice malá and potáplice lední, and occasionally potáplice severní, can be seen offshore in winter, and potáplice žlutozobá has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included slavík modráček, sedmihlásek hajní and bělořit pouštní. sněhule severní regular in winter. ťuhýk obecný and ťuhýk šedý have both occurred on passage.
