Description
Moseley Green and Oakenhill Wood is an open-plan wooded area between Parkend and Mallards Pike. In contrast to most of the Forest of Dean, there are few mature trees here. Oakenhill (a Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust reserve) and Little Moseley are former heath areas where birch is slowly taking over. Thus adders, ostříž lesní, bramborníček černohlavý, sluka lesní and lelek lesní are still a possibility in summer. budníček větší, pěnice černohlavá and budníček menší numerous. Large flocks of juvenile stehlík obecný opposite the Rising Sun pub in late summer.
The area around Parkend church is excellent for winter finches. Look for dlask tlustozobý (up to 30 in January) near the tops of the pine trees in the churchyard, and downhill from the car park. Also křivka obecná, čížek lesní and pěnkava jikavec in smaller numbers. Small areas of wetland attract heron and potápka malá.
