Description
The River Blyth estuary has intertidal mudflats and the river itself attracts waders and wildfowl, especially during migration. Among the birds you can encounter are husice liščí, kajka mořská, ústřičník velký, čejka chocholatá, kulík písečný, jespák rezavý, jespák obecný, jespák křivozobý, jespák malý, koliha velká, koliha malá, pisík obecný and břehouš rudý. In recent years, there has been a noticeable spring pre-breeding gathering of tenkozobec opačný in March and April. Recent rarities include a jespák rudokrký from 5-7 June 2021. At the east end of the site, the old Bates Colliery works have been reclaimed, and offer some small freshwater pools and shrub habitat that are attracting a range of warblers and finches.
