Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as morčák velký and turpan černý and potápka rudokrká, potápka černokrká and potápka žlutorohá. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including jespák bojovný, vodouš kropenatý, bekasina otavní, vodouš rudonohý, ústřičník velký and kulík říční. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for moták pilich, moták pochop, dřemlík tundrový and sokol stěhovavý and, if you are extremely lucky, luňák červený or káně rousná. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as kukačka obecná, bramborníček hnědý and budníček větší, and residents like bramborníček černohlavý, konipas horský and vrabec polní.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see čejka chocholatá, husa velká, berneška velká, labuť zpěvná and many wading birds.
