Description
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Stenvender, Husrødstjert, Skærpiber and Stor Skallesluger. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
Digesvale, Bysvale and Mursejler can all be seen in summer. Bysvale nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Digesvale nest in the walls of the bay.
Strandskade can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Rødben. Grønirisk is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Gravand can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include Dværgmåge. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Sorthalset Lappedykker, Havlit and Halsbåndstroldand.
