Description
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Stor Skallesluger and Sortand and Gråstrubet Lappedykker, Sorthalset Lappedykker and Nordisk Lappedykker. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Brushane, Svaleklire, Dobbeltbekkasin, Rødben, Strandskade and Lille Præstekrave. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Blå Kærhøg, Rørhøg, Dværgfalk and Vandrefalk and, if you are extremely lucky, Rød Glente or Fjeldvåge. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Gøg, Bynkefugl and Løvsanger, and residents like Vestlig Sortstrubet Bynkefugl, Bjergvipstjert and Skovspurv.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Vibe, Grågås, Canadagås, Sangsvane and many wading birds.
