Beschreibung
Ang Trapaeng Thmor Sarus Crane Reserve is located in Banteay Meanchey Province and is one of Cambodia’s most important wetland birding sites. The reserve is famous for the endangered Sarus Crane, the tallest flying bird in the world. During the dry season, groups of Sarus Cranes gather here to feed and roost, offering birders a fantastic opportunity to observe them in their natural habitat.
You can explore the reservoir edges, grasslands, and wetland areas where many species of waterbirds can be seen. You may encounter storks, herons, egrets, jacanas, raptors, and many other wetland species. For example Black-headed Ibis, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Bronze-winged Jacana, Asian Openbill, Eastern Marsh-Harrier, Purple Heron, Black-winged Kite and Pied Kingfisher.
The reserve is particularly productive in the dry season (December–March) when large numbers of waterbirds gather around the shrinking wetlands, making it one of the best birding sites in Cambodia.
