Beschreibung
Bughdasheni Lake is a relatively small lake south of the village of Gorelovka at the mouth of the Zagranichnaia River. Like the other lakes in the Javakheti region, the lake is located on a plateau. The lake is situated at an elevation of approximately 2,000 meters, resulting in a vast and sparsely vegetated landscape. Extensive agriculture is practiced around the lake.
In spring several water birds can be expected such as: Armenienmöwe, Rosapelikan, Krauskopfpelikan, Sichler, Kranich, Rothalstaucher, Schwarzhalstaucher and Purpurreiher. There is also an island where Nachtreiher and a breeding colony of Kormoran are present. In addition, several Dohle (soemmerringii) are present on dung heaps near the village of Gorelovka. The Weißstorch is well represented in the area around the lake as a breeding bird. In spring there is a chance of seeing Black-headed wagtail, Zitronenstelze and Rotkehlpieper directly around the lake. The plains surrounding the lake are full of Grauammer en Feldlerche.

Zugang
Bughdasheni Lake is located 175 km southwest of Tblisi. The lake can be reached from Ninotsminda by driving the paved road (E691) to Gorelovka. In Gorelovka, turn right onto a dirt road that crosses a river. This road is in poor condition, and you should drive all the way to the end until you see a birdwatching hut on the right. Press P on the map for directions.

Be aware of meltwater from the Javakheti Plateau. This may make the road to the bird hide (temporarily) inaccessible. A 4x4 vehicle can be helpful.
