Beschreibung
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Großer Brachvogel, Kiebitz, Weißstorch , Zwergtaucher, Wasserralle, Wachtel, Knäkente, Krickente, Löffelente, Schnatterente, Baumfalke, Kuckuck, Blaukehlchen, Schwarzkehlchen, Teichrohrsänger (rarely Schilfrohrsänger and Drosselrohrsänger) and Neuntöter. Large flocks of Bläßgans use the area during winter, and also a small group of Zwerggans from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Kranich and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Purpurreiher, Moorente, Kleines Sumpfhuhn).
