The Colfiorito Marsh is an elongated basin of approximately 100 hectares. The marsh is the bottom of a tectonic depression surrounded by mountains and hills that is part of the Altopiani di Colfiorito. The marsh remains the only of the lake basins that is covered with water year-round. It is a wildlife sanctuary and a wetland of international importance for the protection of aquatic bird habitats.
If you explore the marsh in complete silence, you will have the chance to spot numerous bird species., such as Rohrdommel (difficult to locate but easy to hear), Zwergdommel, Purpurreiher, Rallenreiher, Teichrohrsänger, Drosselrohrsänger, Stockente, Bläßhuhn, Teichhuhn, Graureiher, Silberreiher, Bartmeise, Beutelmeise, Rohrweihe, Wasserralle, Kornweihe, Bekassine, Krickente, Pfeifente, Tafelente, Haubentaucher, Kiebitz, Uferschnepfe, and Großer Brachvogel.
You can also find other bird species not linked to the marshy environment such as Mäusebussard, Sperber, Turmfalke, Schleiereule, Waldkauz, Buntspecht, Feldlerche, Kleiber, Schwarzkehlchen, Baumpieper, Wiesenschafstelze, Braunkehlchen, Neuntöter, Ortolan and more rarely Rotkehlpieper. The best seasons to observe the lively population of the swamp are spring and autumn, even better if in the early hours of the morning.

Italiano: La Palude di Colfiorito è un'importante zona umida che ospita una ricca varietà di specie animali e vegetali, luogo ideale per attività di osservazione naturalistica. Conca allungata di circa 100ha, la palude è il fondo di una depressione di origine tettonica circondata da montagne e colline che fa parte degli Altopiani di Colfiorito. La palude è l'unico residuo dei bacini lacustri a essere ricoperto di acqua per tutto l'anno. È un oasi di protezione della fauna e zona umida di valore internazionale per la protezione di habitat per uccelli acquatici. Se si ha l'accortezza di visitare la palude rispettando un assoluto silenzio, è possibile osservare molte specie di uccelli. Le stagioni migliori per osservare la vivace popolazione della palude sono la primavera e l'autunno, ancor meglio se nelle prime ore del mattino.

After the village of Colfiorito, continue towards the Molinaccio Sinkhole, the starting point and the first lookout point. Another lookout point is after the Fontaccia. You can download the map using the links below. This is an ideal place for nature observation and can be visited via an easy 5 km circular trail (both on foot or mountain bike). Some sections of the trail may be muddy if it has rained. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.

Italiano: Dopo l'abitato di Colfiorito proseguire verso l'Inghiottitoio del Molinaccio come punto di partenza e dove è presente il primo punto di avvistamento. Un altro punto di avvistamento è dopo la Fontaccia. Dai link sottostanti è possibile scaricare la cartografia. La Palude di Colfiorito è un luogo ideale per svolgere le attività di osservazione naturalistica e può essere visitata tramite un facile 5 km percorso ad anello (sia a piedi che in mountain bike). Alcuni tratti del tracciato, se è piovuto, possono risultare fangosi.
