The Wohlensee stretches about 7 km from Wohlen to Muehleberg and is bordered by reedbeds. The aquatic vegetation attracts a vast number of birds, in particular wintering waterfowl: Höckerschwan, Schnatterente, Reiherente, Tafelente, Kolbenente, Krickente. The surrounding forests host woodland species such as Buntspecht, Schwarzspecht, Grünspecht. Recent restoration of hedges in the surrounding fields has seen the return of Neuntöter. During migration thousands of martins and swallows.
