The Mediterranean lagoon (Akdeniz Gölü) near Gölköy attracts many herons and other birds. Among the birds you can observe at the lake are Graureiher, Silberreiher, Seidenreiher and Zwergtaucher. Also passerines such as Samtkopf-Grasmücke and Schwarzkehlchen are abundant in the surrounding habitats.
