Beschreibung
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large Goldregenpfeifer flocks in winter, with records of Prärie-Goldregenpfeifer and Tundra-Goldregenpfeifer. Passage Regenbrachvogel and Sichelstrandläufer. Winter Meerstrandläufer. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the Zwergseeschwalbes that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Sterntaucher and Eistaucher, and occasionally Prachttaucher, can be seen offshore in winter, and Gelbschnabeltaucher has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Blaukehlchen, Gelbspötter and Wüstensteinschmätzer. Schneeammer regular in winter. Neuntöter and Raubwürger have both occurred on passage.
