Brookmill's habitat is actively managed to provide the best conditions for species that are harder to spot elsewhere in London, including Eisvogel, Seidenreiher, Mönchsgrasmücke and Wintergoldhähnchen. The pond is very peaceful and particularly pretty in spring, with a very loud dawn chorus. Nilgans, Mandarinente and Graureiher also feed there.

The park is right alongside Elverson Station (on London's DLR line) or just five minutes from Lewisham centre. There's a cycle path that cuts through the park that reaches London's Thames path at Greenwich in less than 15 minutes.
