Beschreibung
Cardiff Bay is good for birds all year round. Residents include Steinwälzer, Hausrotschwanz, Strandpieper and Gänsesäger. The first can be seen on the green walkways in groups, whilst the rest can be seen basking on the rocky edges.
Uferschwalbe, Mehlschwalbe and Mauersegler can all be seen in summer. Mehlschwalbe nest in ready-made boxes under the eaves of houses by the roundabout barrage entrance. Uferschwalbe nest in the walls of the bay.
Austernfischer can be seen on the barrage all year round, as well as Rotschenkel. Grünfink is another resident around the bay. When the tide goes out, many species, such as Brandgans can be seen feeding.
Winter visitors include Zwergmöwe. However, check sightings before going as they tend to move around a lot. Finally, rarities include Schwarzhalstaucher, Eisente and Ringschnabelente.
