Mere Sands Wood is a Lancashire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. Keep your eyes peeled for species like Gimpel, Feldsperling, Buntspecht and Sperber as they fly to and from their nests in the woodland. If you take a seat in one of the lakeside hides you may see Haubentaucher performing their elaborate courtship ritual. Eisvogel are present as well as wintering Rohrdommel. The lakes and reedbeds also support Wasserralle, Rohrammer, Schellente, Tafelente and more.There are multiple hides, and it's easy walking.
