Beschreibung
The reservoir is shallow, having only a maximum depth of 9m (30’), which makes it very attractive to both dabbling and diving ducks. It occasionally attracts less common wildfowl, such as Gänsesäger and Trauerente and Rothalstaucher, Schwarzhalstaucher and Ohrentaucher. Waders are often present in spring and autumn, including Kampfläufer, Waldwasserläufer, Bekassine, Rotschenkel, Austernfischer and Flußregenpfeifer. Scaling Dam can also be an excellent place to watch raptors and, from the hide, an eye should always be kept on the moorland plateau and valleys for Kornweihe, Rohrweihe, Merlin and Wanderfalke and, if you are extremely lucky, Rotmilan or Raufußbussard. The site is also good for summer visitors, such as Kuckuck, Braunkehlchen and Fitis, and residents like Schwarzkehlchen, Gebirgsstelze and Feldsperling.
There is a hide for birdwatching where you might see Kiebitz, Graugans, Kanadagans, Singschwan and many wading birds.
