Beschreibung
The Christopher Cadbury Wetland Reserve at Upton Warren may be small but it boasts a wide variety of birds, particularly waders. It's divided into two parts by a boating lake, with the Moors Pool to the north and The Flashes to the south, with 2 branches of the River Salwarpe running through it.
The Flashes has breeding Säbelschnäbler and wintering Großer Brachvogel, plus many more species that might show up on spring and autumn passage. Regulars include Flußuferläufer, Waldwasserläufer, Sandregenpfeifer, Alpenstrandläufer, Grünschenkel and Uferschnepfe. Rarer species include Kampfläufer, Sanderling, Steinwälzer, Pfuhlschnepfe, Regenbrachvogel, Bruchwasserläufer Zwergstrandläufer and Sichelstrandläufer. Even Wiesenstrandläufer, Wilsonwassertreter, Odinshühnchen, Stelzenläufer, Graubrust-Strandläufer, Temminckstrandläufer and Sichler have occurred. A pair of Bartmeise were seen in November 2019. A Wanderfalke is often present and may be seen perching on one of the radio masts.
The Moors Pool attracts more wildfowl and has breeding Flußseeschwalbe, Austernfischer, Teichrohrsänger, Schilfrohrsänger, Seidensänger and Rohrammer. Baumfalke is present in summer and passage may bring Rohrweihe, Fischadler and Trauerseeschwalbe, while one or two Rohrdommel might appear in winter.
Both areas have breeding Flußregenpfeifer, Kiebitz and Rotschenkel, as well as Bekassine and Zwergschnepfe in winter. Also, the Lachmöwe roosts may feature a Schwarzkopfmöwe or a Zwergmöwe and have even hosted Aztekenmöwe and Präriemöwe in the past.
