Description
Bistraka is a small lake between the river Struma and the A3 motorway. Its a great place for (Ευρωπαϊκός) Μικροτσικνιάς in the summer. Other birds you can observe include (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς, Μαύρος Πελαργός, Λευκός Πελαργός, Γκισάρι, (Κοινό) Αηδόνι, Καλαμόκιρκος (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Μελισσοφάγος, Οχθοχελίδονο, Βαλκανικός Δρυοκολάπτης and Τσιχλοποταμίδα. Seasonal migration brings flocks of swallows, wagtails, and warblers, while wintering ducks and geese use the area as resting grounds. The area has also seen rarities like (Ευρωπαϊκη) Βαλτόπαπια and (Ευρωπαϊκό) Μαυροκιρκίνεζο.

Access
Bistraka lake is located south of the town of Blagoevgrad. It has easy access next to a road. Press P on the map for directions. You can make a 2,5 km circular walk around the lake and also walk to the dams in the Struma river.
