Description

Langeneß is stretching about 10 kilometers in length and up to 1.4 kilometers in width. The landscape is a mosaic of salt marshes, tidal flats, and raised dwelling mounds called Warften, where the few residents live. Like the other Hallig islands, Langeneß is characterized by its unique location between the mainland and the sea. The extensive green areas with wet meadows and its location in the Wadden Sea attract numerous breeding and resting birds throughout the year. In addition to the typical waders of the Wadden Sea, rare songbirds can also be observed here during migration, especially during the autumn migration on the Warften.
