Description
The Longarini lagoon is a wetland area of about 200 hectares located in the territory of Ispica, a few hundred meters from the coast. It is the largest of a complex of marshes that extend between Ispica and Pachino. The lagoon attracts a wide array of species throughout the year. In winter one can see (Ευρωπαϊκό) Φοινικόπτερο, several species of ducks, (Κοινή) Φαλαρίδα, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, different species of herons, Καλαμόκιρκος, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, Υφάντρα and more. During migration, the area attracts several typical wetland species, including waders such as Πρασινοσκέλης and Καλαμοκανάς, as well as migratory ducks like (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα and (Ευρωπαϊκη) Βαλτόπαπια. The site is one of the last places where Στικτόπαπια breeds in Italy. Re-introduced Σουλτανοπουλάδα can also be seen.

The lagoon is located 5 km west of the village of Pachino. The site is easily accessible by any means of transport.
