Water from the dunes runs towards the south point of Texel. Het Grote Vlak consists of a few lakes in this water course.

Description

Het Grote Vlak often holds a lot of ducks ( (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια , Καπακλής , Ψαλίδα (του Βορά) , Βαρβάρα , (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι and in spring (Ευρωπαϊκή) Σαρσέλα ), gulls and grebes. Sometimes waders, like (Ευρωπαϊκή) Λιμόζα , are abundant and few songbirds, like (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκελάδα and Μαυρολαίμης (sometimes even Γαλαζολαίμης ), can be found. The area is also good for finding Φασσοπερίστερο , Σταχτοπετρόκλης and in winter Χιονογερακίνα .

Access

Het Grote Vlak is easily accessible from the village of Den Hoorn towards the beach. You can park on the roadside, but try to give way to cyclists on the parallel cycle path.
