Description

Lake Purcelu and the Sireasa bird colony is one of the most important birdwatching areas in the Danube Delta. Without entering the bird colony, you can sail on the Trofilca canal, then the Cotete lake and observe hundreds of bird species. Boat excursions let you experience these bird colonies within a rich natural setting of canals and lakes. Birds you can observe include cormorants, ducks, herons, Αργυροπελεκάνος, Ροδοπελεκάνος, (Ευρασιατική) Χαλκόκοτα, Κοκκινόχηνα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Θαλασσαετός, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Χαλκοκουρούνα, Κοκκινοβουτηχτάρι and other typical Danube Delta birds.

Access

Lake Purcelu and the Sireasa bird colony are located in the Danube Delta near the town of Tulcea. You can reach the area only by boat. There are several providers of boat trips. Most trips depart from Tulcea harbour. The boats are usually small, eco-friendly vessels, designed to minimize environmental impact and preserve the tranquility of the lake.
