Description
Resident and passage waders, especially at Haven and at Longhoughton Steel, 1.5 km north. Large (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι flocks in winter, with records of American Golden Plover and Βροχοπούλι του Ειρηνικού. Passage Σιγλίγουρος and Δρεπανοσκαλίδρα. Winter Βραχοσκαλίδρα. The tidal foreshore is unusual in that there are sheltered areas of shallow water protected from waves by reefs at almost all states of the tide, making it an important feeding location for the (Ευρωπαϊκό) Νανογλάρονοs that breed at the nearby Long Nanny (q.v.) and other terns.
Κηλιδοβούτι and Παγοβούτι, and occasionally Λαμπροβούτι, can be seen offshore in winter, and White-billed Diver has been recorded.
Vagrant passerines on foreshore and at Seaton Point, 1.5 km south in 2020-22 included Γαλαζολαίμης, Κιτρινοστριτσίδα and Ερημοπετρόκλης. Χιονοτσίχλονο regular in winter. Αετομάχος and Διπλοκεφαλάς have both occurred on passage.
