At Gunthorpe Gravel Pits 120+ species of bird have been seen, including Νανοπρίστης, Χηνοπρίστης and Θαλασσοπρίστης in winter, when (Ευρωπαϊκή) Καλημάνα, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια and teal can be numerous on flooded fields. Spring brings Καλαμοποταμίδα, Σχοινοποταμίδα, Θαμνοτριλιστής to breed, and Μαυρογλάρονο, Σταχτοπετρόκλης and Καστανολαίμης on migration. In summer, Δεντρογέρακο hunt swallows over the ponds.
