Mere Sands Wood is a Lancashire Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve. Keep your eyes peeled for species like (Κοινός) Πύρρουλας, Δεντροσπουργίτης, Πευκοδρυοκολάπτης and (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι as they fly to and from their nests in the woodland. If you take a seat in one of the lakeside hides you may see Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι performing their elaborate courtship ritual. (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη are present as well as wintering (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος. The lakes and reedbeds also support (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα, (Μεγάλο) Καλαμοτσίχλονο, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Βουκεφάλα, Γκισάρι and more.There are multiple hides, and it's easy walking.
