Description
NWT Ranworth Broad is accessible to all and boasts a great visitor centre (which is open in the spring and summer) with wide views over Ranworth Broad. The broad (lake) itself offers chances to see Σκουφοβουτηχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη and Καλαμόκιρκος throughout the year, while the boardwalk trail supports Καστανοπαπαδίτσα, (Κοινός) Πύρρουλας and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα may also be heard.
In winter, the broad will be busy with feeding wildfowl including (Ευρωπαϊκό) Σφυριχτάρι, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Κιρκίρι, (Ευρασιατική) Χουλιαρόπαπια, Ψαλίδα (του Βορά) and a few Μαυροκέφαλη Πάπια. In periods of harsh weather, (Ευρασιατικός) Ήταυρος, Σταχτόπαπια and other scarcer species may be seen. The alder trees on the trail from the car park may hold good numbers of (Κοινό) Λούγαρο and Lesser Redpoll.
In summer, there is a chance of seeing a flyover Ψαραετός, but more likely, there will be plenty of Ποταμογλάρονο feeding over the broad. Large gatherings of σταβλοχελίδονο, Λευκοχελίδονο and Οχθοχελίδονο may also be seen. Listen out for the songs of Δεντροφυλλοσκόπος, Σχοινοποταμίδα, Καλαμοποταμίδα and even a (Ευρωπαϊκός) Κούκος along the boardwalk trail.
