Description
The River Monnow is a scenic area noted for blossoming fruit orchards in spring. On warm mornings up to 50 (Κοινός) Κόρακας soar the thermals, with (Κοινή) Γερακίνα and maybe a (Κοινό) Ξεφτέρι. On the river there are Σταχτοτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς, Σταχτοσουσουράδα, Οχθοχελίδονο, (Κοινή) Σταχτάρα, (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Νεροκότσυφας and Mandarin Duck. The fruit orchards attract large numbers of wintering Κεδρότσιχλα and Κοκκινότσιχλα.

Access
Head west from Monmouth via Rockfield to park at Skenfrith Castle. Cafe here in summer. Pub is expensive. Or take Osbaston road to Tregate bridge where there is limited parking. 6 mile circular walk available along both river banks, passing Llanrothal chapel (open) and Ruthlin mill.
