Description
Talybont Reservoir has two bird hides, car parking, and a nice cafe in the village. Shallow water, marshland and exposed mud at the top end attract dabbling ducks, waders especially (Ευρασιατική) Μπεκάτσα, (Κοινό) Μπεκατσίνι, Κουφομπεκάτσινο, Σταχτοτσικνιάς, (Κοινός) Λευκοτσικνιάς and (Ευρωπαϊκή) Νεροκοτσέλα in autumn and winter. The woods have Μαυρομυγοχάφτης, (Κοινή) Γερακίνα, Χουχουριστής, Δεντροτσοπανάκος, Βουνοδεντροβάτης and (Ευρωπαϊκό) Γιδοβύζι. In the surrounding streams look for Σταχτοσουσουράδα, (Ευρωπαϊκός) Νεροκότσυφας and Μαυρολαίμης. And on the moors may be (Ευρασιατική) Τουρλίδα, (Ευρωπαϊκό) Βροχοπούλι, Red Grouse, (Κοινός) Κόρακας, Λιβαδοκελάδα and Σταχτοπετρόκλης . The nearby canal has (Ευρωπαϊκή) Αλκυόνη.

Access
Between Brecon and Abergavenny. Take the B4558 and turn south in Talybont village. A regular bus service runs through the village, from which it's a 2 mile walk to the reservoir. The circular route up to Tor y Foel is 5 km, with 250 metres of ascent. Stout boots, a hiking pole, snacks, a drink and waterproof clothing are recommended.
