Description

The Thornburg Trail is located within the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness in North Carolina, a federally designated wilderness area. The trail offers a pleasant walk through the woods with some creek viewpoints. The mix of forest fields and stream attract many types of birds. Birds you can spot include Common Yellowthroat, Summer Tanager, Black-and-white Warbler, Hooded Warbler, Pine Warbler, Indigo Bunting, American Goldfinch, and Yellow-billed Cuckoo.

Access

The Thornburg Trail is located in Randolph County, south of Asheboro. The trailhead can be accessed from the Thornburg Trailhead on Lassiter Mill Road. There is a small gravel parking lot. Press p on the map for directions to the parking. The trail connects with other trails in the area, such as the Robbins Branch Trail and the Birkhead Mountain Trail. The trail shown on the map is 3,5 miles out and back.
