Paardeweide is one of the controlled flood areas (GOG) of the Sigma plan. A good place for birding and to see rare birds.

Description

Paardeweide is a wetland that is flooded about once a year. You will find open water, reeds, and a mix of grasslands. The area attracts herons, waders and other water birds. Breeding birds are Avocet and Common Tern. Furthermore you can often see Eurasian Spoonbill. From the dyke, the following rarities can be observed periodically: Great Bittern , Spotted Crake , Little Crake , Red-footed Falcon and Purple Heron.
