Descripción

Centennial Park features 7 ponds that form the centerpiece of a large, rambling parkland. Between ponds are a mixture of open grasslands, native trees, low shrubs and swamplands. Because of this diversity you can see a wide cross section of Sydney birdlife in one location. Commonly seen birds include: Little Egret, Plumed Egret, White-faced Heron, Tawny Frogmouth, Great Cormorant, Little Pied Cormorant, Superb Fairywren, Grey Teal, Little Corella, Long-billed Corella, Sulphur-crested Cockatoo, Laughing Kookaburra, Black Swan, plus a variety of ducks. Birds of prey such as Brown Goshawk and Peregrine Falcon can often be seen. Centennial Park also features a large flying fox colony.

Accesso

Centennial Park is has a ring road around it and a number of small roads through the parklands. Parking is available in the park itself but can get busy on weekends, especially in summer. There is a light rail station, Royal Randwick (1), directly to the south of the park and a number of bus routes pass nearby. The park is relatively flat, well served with pathways and can be explored comfortably on foot. Bicycles are also well catered for. To walk around a few ponds and see some of the diversity could easily occupy a few hours. To explore the whole parklands would take a full day.
