Simpsons Gap is a spectacular feature in the West MacDonnell National Park. It is a beautiful place to visit with a number of desert birds to be found.

Simpsons Gap has been carved out of the ranges by Roe creek, and here water flows through the small gap in the MacDonnell Ranges. Located just 18 kilometres from Alice Springs, this permanent waterhole is home to resident plants and wildlife, including the black-footed-rock wallaby.

The Gap is home to a number of desert birds including Wedge-tailed Eagle, Grey-headed Honeyeater, Painted Finch , Southern Whiteface and Hooded Robin. As well Dusky Grasswren has occasionally been seen.

Simpsons Gap is located 24 km west of Alice Springs. You can travel west along Larapinta Drive for 17 km then turn right at the sign onto Darken Drive towards Simpsons Gap carpark. Press P on the map to access Google mapping.
