The Pallieterpolder is a wetland and reed marsh along the river Beneden-Nete where you'll find a variety of duck species in the numerous ponds, including: Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Cerceta Carretona and in winter Cerceta Común and Silbón Europeo. The area is also rich in wading birds in spring and summer, such as: Archibebe Oscuro, Archibebe Claro, Avefría Europea and Archibebe Común. Also you can spot many reed birds like Carricero Común, Carricerín Común, Bigotudo, Carricero Tordal, Ruiseñor Pechiazul and Escribano Palustre, and also Tarabilla Norteña and Tarabilla común.
Occasionally a few shy species appear along the reed edges, such as Rascón Europeo, Polluela Pintoja and Avetoro Común. Recently also Avetorillo común returned as a breeding bird. You can also expect Halcón Peregrino, Cernícalo vulgar, Busardo ratonero and Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental in the area. There is also a nice variety of gulls and terns throughout the seasons, so you have a chance of seeing Gaviota Patiamarilla, Gaviota Reidora, Gaviota del Caspio, Gaviota sombría and Gaviota argéntea europea, Fumarel Común, Charrán Común and with some luck even Fumarel Cariblanco. In short, a nice birding area with a great variety of birds.

Nederlands: De Pallieterpolder ligt aan de rand van de binnenstad Lier langs de Beneden-Nete. Het is oorspronkelijk ingericht als overstromingsgebied maar is uitgegroeid tot een vogelparadijs. Het is een rietmoeras gebied waar je op de vele plasjes verschillende leuke eendensoorten vind als: Porrón Moñudo, Porrón Europeo, Cerceta Carretona en in de winter Cerceta Común en Silbón Europeo. Het gebied is ook in de lente en zomer rijk aan steltlopers als: Archibebe Oscuro, Archibebe Claro, Avefría Europea en Archibebe Común. Ook kun je er veel zangvogels als Carricero Común, Carricerín Común, Bigotudo, Carricero Tordal, Ruiseñor Pechiazul en Escribano Palustre in het riet vinden, en verder ook Tarabilla Norteña en Tarabilla común.
Langs de rietkanten verschijnen af en toe ook een paar mysterieuze soorten als Rascón Europeo, Polluela Pintoja en Avetoro Común. Recent broedt ook de Avetorillo común terug in het gebied. Je kan ook Halcón Peregrino, Cernícalo vulgar, Busardo ratonero en Aguilucho Lagunero Occidental in het gebied verwachten. Ook is er een leuke verscheidenheid van meeuwen en sterns doorheen de seizoenen zo maak je hier kans op Gaviota Patiamarilla, Gaviota Reidora, Gaviota del Caspio, Gaviota sombría en Gaviota argéntea europea, Fumarel Común, Charrán Común en af en toe met wat geluk zelfs Fumarel Cariblanco. Kortom een heel mooi gebied met een grote verscheidenheid aan vogels.

The Pallieterpolder is located on the edge of Lier's city center and is very accessible: you can walk or cycle along the Beneden-Nete dike. Parking is available on both sides of the area. Press P on the map for directions to a parking spot.
