Descripción
The area is of great importance for breeding birds of semi-natural grasslands and wetlands. Around 80 species of breeding birds are recorded annually, including Zarapito Real, Avefría Europea, Cigüeña Blanca , Zampullín Común, Rascón Europeo, Codorniz Común, Cerceta Carretona, Cerceta Común, Cuchara Común, Ánade friso, Alcotán Europeo, Cuco Común, Ruiseñor Pechiazul, Tarabilla común, Carricero Común (rarely Carricerín Común and Carricero Tordal) and Alcaudón Dorsirrojo. Large flocks of Ánsar careto use the area during winter, and also a small group of Ánsar chico from a rewilding project in Sweden has established a "tradition" to visit the area for wintering, starting in 2017. In late winter, the area serves as roosting place for hundreds of Grulla Común and during spring migration, a great variety of ducks and waders can be encountered. Occasionally, rarities show up (e.g. Garza Imperial, Porrón Pardo, Polluela Bastarda).
